Bangladeshi couple, 2 others die in accident

Makkah-Accident

Four Bangladeshi nationals were killed and two were seriously injured in a road accident when they were returning home in Al-Kharj after performing Umrah on Saturday. Among the injured was a five-year-old girl.

Eyewitness on Sunday said a speeding truck hit the private car carrying the six Bangladeshis, leaving Abbas Ali, who worked as a driver in Al-Kharj, his wife Rehana and two others dead on the spot.

Abbas was a native of Bhogti village of Keshabpur municipality in Jessore, while two other victims were yet to be identified.

A senior official from the Bangladesh Embassy here confirmed the deaths, saying that a team from the community welfare section had left for Al-Kharj city to extend necessary help. The injured include Abbas’s daughter Afrin (5) and relative Saiful Islam, who was also working in Saudi Arabia.

Locals said Abbas’s family back home in Bangladesh was informed about the accident. “It is tragic and frightening. Nobody knows about what will happen next,” a Bangladeshi expatriate in Al-Kharj said.
