Former Lebanese prime minister Saad Al-Hariri has urged Saudi Arabia not to abandon Lebanon.

Hariri called on Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman “not to forgo Lebanon and to continue to support and embrace it.” He was speaking in a televised address.

Hariri said Lebanon would “not be a protectorate for Iranian policies in the region.” He said: “We are here to confirm in the loudest voice that nobody will be able to cancel Lebanon’s Arabness.”

In a statement Monday, Lebanon’s Prime Minister Tammam Salam said he will head a ministerial delegation to visit Gulf states in the near future.

Salam says it is necessary to rectify relations between Lebanon and its “brothers,” and “remove the stains” that surfaced recently. Salam said Lebanon will maintain its policy of “disassociation” from regional conflicts.
