Haia ‘does not harass people’
The Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice (Haia) does not harass or punish people, said its President Abdul Rahman Al-Sanad.
He stressed that the Haia is a strategic partner in guaranteeing the comprehensive security of the Kingdom.
His remarks follow recent accusations against Haia members.
Haia is doing a fine job in combating extortion and blackmail, said the president.
Speaking at a recent symposium in Riyadh, he also said that the Haia seeks to improve the behavior of people and protect and raise awareness of community members.
The president stressed the need to raise awareness among women and urged them to wear hijab and maintain the highest morals and ethics.
At the symposium, he refrained from responding to criticism made against Haia in social media.
He, however, affirming that the serious and diligent work of Haia does conforms to the rules and principles of Shariah law.
He cited the work of the Haia during prayer times; the committee asks merchants to close their shops when the call for prayers is made. This is one of the greatest and best deeds carried out in public interest.
He highlighted the achievements made by Haia during the last Haj season, such as raising awareness among pilgrims, warning them not to fall victim to heretics and myths.
The symposium, organized by King Saud University, emphasized the concept of comprehensive security which is considered the fundamental basis of the work of Haia.
The other recommendations included promoting the principles of partnership and integration between government agencies concerned with maintaining peace and national security, developing educational and training programs for government employees and calling on all media outlets to disseminate the message of comprehensive security.
