Saudi student shines at innovation contest
Saudi student Sara Ali Saeed brought honor to the country by receiving a recognition certificate from the University of Sharjah and a plaque from the Saudi cultural attaché in the UAE for her creative innovation.
Dr. Saleh bin Mohammed Al-Dossari, the Saudi cultural attaché in the UAE, said it’s a proud moment for everyone because of Sara Ali Saeed’s achievement from the Faculty of Business Administration at the University of Sharjah, who participated in the “Innovation Competition” hosted by the university.
This competition, which was held to support the entrepreneurship program, in the presence of Professor Humaid Al-Nuaimi, director of the University of Sharjah, helps students in creating ideas in various fields, expands the circle of participation and opens the doors of creativity as a key pillar to reach sustainable excellence and provide a better life for nations.
Al-Dossari explained that Saeed created an innovative smartphone app for students or people using bus or public transport under the name “Bus on Lane” which can be downloaded to smartphones and connected to transportation firms. The app provides information to public transportation users to save time, effort and long waits, and also informs them of schedules, transportation costs, road maps and locations of the nearest buses.
Saeed said she came up with the idea after facing problems with bus schedules and the capacity of public buses. “I started thinking about designing an application that provides bus information from a map location; the bus map is attached to the Google map application and the location of the nearest bus station,” she said.
She explained that her project will allow passengers to make decisions in terms of waiting or taking a taxi to save time. Also information is provided on seat availability on the bus. It is also gives information on the duration of the trip and the cost.
