Iranian reformist presidential candidate Mehdi Karroubi, who has been under house arrest since 2011, has appealed to Iranian President Hassan Rouhani for a court hearing in order to show that the two elections he lost were rigged.

Karroubi lost two presidnetial elections to former Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad who he has accused of voter rigging.

Karroubi, a former speaker of parliament, said in a letter to Rouhani that Iran’s powerful Revolutionary Guard, Basij militia and intelligence ministry falsified the results of the 2005 and 2009 polls that Mahmoud Ahmedinejad won.

Karroubi and fellow reformist presidential contender Mir Hussein Moussavi, who has also been under house arrest since 2011, are figureheads of the country’s “green movement.” Neither have been formally charged or been taken to court.

“The only path is reform and returning to the direction of the law,” Karroubi wrote in the letter.
