Sunshades in Quba Mosque courtyards being replaced
The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has started constructing a huge sunshade over the western courtyard of Quba Mosque in Madinah to protect worshippers from the sweltering sun. It will replace the existing sunshade.
“We will install air-conditioners in all parts of the sunshade,” said Mohammed Al-Khatari, director general of the ministry’s branch office in Madinah.
“The new sunshade will be larger than the previous one and will accommodate more worshippers,” he pointed out.
He said the installation of the sunshade would be completed shortly, adding that it has nothing to do with the mosque’s expansion plan whose designs are ready.
“We’ll also put new carpets as well as water coolers in the area where sunshades are erected as part of preparations for Ramadan when a large number of worshippers, including foreign pilgrims, are expected to visit the mosque,” the director general told Al-Madinah Arabic daily.
The company that has been contracted to erect the new sunshade has already removed the old one. Al-Madinah witnessed the removal of a large portion of the old sunshade on the western side of the mosque, its main gateway.
Al-Khatari said his ministry would deploy staff members at Quba Mosque to provide various services to worshippers during Ramadan.
“We have completed maintenance work at the mosque in preparation for welcoming the fasting month,” he added.
