New Managing Committee for IISJ

New IISJ CM

Mohammed Iqbal Manissar Kunnath from Kerala emerged as the highest vote-getter in the International Indian School-Jeddah (IISJ) Managing Committee elections.

He won 776 votes of the valid 1,315 votes cast during the elections on Saturday. He was followed by Shamsuddeen Kodakkodan, also from Kerala (773).

In third place was Mohammed Asif Rameez Daudi from Bihar. He won 765 votes.

Daudi, who teaches English at King Abdul Aziz University, turned out to be a popular candidate. He is new to Jeddah and his victory is worthy of notice.

Fourth place went to Majid Saleem Siddiqi from Uttar Pradesh who got 718 votes. Majid Siddiqi’s video in which he confidently and articulately explained his agenda for the school’s development had gone viral in the run-up to the elections.

In fifth place was Chandramohan Velliyaprayil Balan from Maharashtra with 700 votes. Popularly known as Mohan Balan, he is a longtime resident of Jeddah and enjoys strong support among different sections of the community.

Coming in sixth place was Tahir Ali from Karnataka with 787 votes; he was followed by Noorul Ameen from Tamil Nadu with 585 votes.

Seventeen candidates were competing for a seat on the seven-member Managing Committee. Despite having a huge presence in the school, the only candidate from Hyderabad, Mohammed Abdul Mubeen, failed to win a seat.

Only 22 percent, amounting to 1,315 votes of the 6,170 eligible voters, exercised their franchise.

According to the convention, the candidate with the highest number of votes becomes the chairman but he must win the trust of the majority of the seven-member committee.

According to election observers, the biggest loss was for the backers of the previous Managing Committee Chairman Mohammed Abdul Raziq. Most of the candidates they supported lost.
