Dabbashi said that the international political support for the presidential council cannot be a substitute for the Libyan constitutional.

Libyan diplomat Ibrahim Dabbashi told Al Arabiya’s “The Diplomatic Avenue” that he was fired from his position as his country’s ambassador to the United Nations.

He said Prime Minister Fayez Al Sarraj who heads the Presidential Council decided to remove him from his position, but the decision has not been backed by parliament.

But Dabbashi said he does not want to be the subject of a dispute between the executive and legislative authorities, adding that he considers himself on a “vacation leave” until the parliament decides on his fate.

In response to a question from Al Arabiya’s Talal Haj about if he was calling on the parliament to ratify the decision of Al Sarraj, Dabbashi replied “Yes”.

He added that the international political support for the presidential council cannot be a substitute for the Libyan constitutional and legal framework “even if it comes through the Security Council.”

Earlier, Akilah Saleh, speaker of the Tobruk-based parliament, threatened to refer to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and file a lawsuit against the UN for “deepening the gap in Libya and hurdling efforts to solve the crisis”.

Saleh called on UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to stop dealing with Sarraj’s government and its presidential council especially after the no-confidence decision has been taken by the parliament.
