Saudis across the Kingdom are making preparations to celebrate the National Day on Thursday.

Malls and shops throughout the country have switched into high gear, selling flags, badges and other related items as part of the celebrations.

Some shopkeepers are earning an amount between SR3,000 and SR5,000 per day by selling such items.

Hamza Farooq, a salesman working at a gift store in Jeddah, said: “We have stocked our store with full green items, flags, hats, face paints, T-shirts, stickers, hair accessories and other items that reflect the National Day celebration.

“There is an increase in our earning due to the selling of such decorative stuff, whom citizens of all ages are interested to buy.”

Besides the gift stores, shops selling car accessories are also enjoying a brisk business as motorists rush to decorate their vehicles to mark the celebration. Many Saudis are giving their cars a green color.

“My friends and I make sure to decorate our cars every year to show our love for our beloved country as the National Day is an occasion to display our patriotism for the Kingdom,” said Saeed Al-Ghamdi, 27, a resident of Jeddah.

Many car accessory shops said that on average they are decorating 10 to 15 cars daily.

Moreover, as a part of the celebrations, most of the streets in Jeddah are adorned with national flags.

Since patriotism is gripping the atmosphere, schools and educational institutions are also preparing to celebrate the festival.

Salwa Rahman, principal of a private school, said, “We have organized attractive programs highlighting Saudi culture, history and heritage. The program arranged is distinctive this year as many students have become increasingly supportive of the celebrations.

“Students of different nationalities are jointly organizing events to mark this special national occasion.”

National Day fervor is not only confined to citizens, but expatriates are equally participating in the preparations.

“It is just a way of conveying our appreciation to the country that has given us everything.

“If my family leads a peaceful and prosperous life, it is because we are in the Kingdom,” said Mohammed Ansar, who is an engineer and a resident of Jeddah.
