Eastern Province Gov. Prince Saud bin Naif, chairman of the board of trustees of the Ideal Driver Award, launched on Saturday the website and an awareness campaign for the prize in its third season.

The competition is organized by the Committee of Traffic Safety in the Eastern Province, along with the Traffic Department in collaboration with the Saudi Society for Traffic Safety.

Sultan Al-Zahrani, secretary general of the awards, said: “The award aims to highlight the importance of observing traffic rules and to stimulate and encourage drivers to comply with traffic regulations.”

He said the event is expected to spur strong competition.

Zahrani said that the initiative has achieved many successes in past years and was instrumental in spreading traffic awareness among drivers of all ages, especially young people.

“In order to qualify for the awards, the participants should have not committed traffic violations for the past three years,” he said.

He said the competition aims to spread the culture of traffic safety among individuals in government and private sectors, and to stimulate and encourage drivers to abide by traffic regulations and to provide a safe environment, in addition to motivating young people to provide an exemplary leadership.

The organizers have launched an online application to help inform people about the objectives of the competition.

Prince Saud bin Naif distributed awards to 32 individuals last year.
