President of the Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage (SCTNH) Prince Sultan bin Salman, who is also chairman of the supervisory committee of the National Program for Exhibitions and Conferences (NPEC), presided over NPEC’s 12th meeting at the committee’s headquarters in Riyadh on Sunday.

In his speech at the meeting, Prince Sultan stressed that human capital is the real and basic driver of development and as such, the Saudi Academy for Event, Conventions and Conferences will work to strengthen citizens’ capabilities and foster a culture of employment in the industry.

“The National Program for Exhibitions and Conferences, in cooperation with partners in the public and private sectors, considers it important to take advantage of original thoughts and distinctive skills,” said Prince Sultan. He stressed the importance of taking quick action to make up for missed opportunities and preparing the academic ground for job grading in the events industry, as well as preparing training programs for those wishing to enter the industry, to acquaint them with investment opportunities and challenges, and ways to deal with them to bring about a qualitative change in the work culture.

This will help citizens become stakeholders and get directly involved in running the different economic sectors, reaping the benefits, instead of acting like managers who merely operate the industry.

“Saudi Arabia’s events industry is one of the main tracks of “The Kingdom is Muslims’ Destination” initiative proposed by the SCTNH and adopted by the NPEC,” said the prince.

He also said that the initiative has a global reach, targeting Muslims, guiding them toward the Kaaba. It will also open new cultural, economic and social exchange opportunities, and project a positive image of the Kingdom.

The events industry, according to Prince Sultan, will contribute to the initiative through providing conference and exhibition halls, and by organizing events such as exhibitions, conferences, meetings, workshops and training courses in many sectors of the economy.

The SCTNH praised the efforts exerted by the executive management of the program, which helped achieve many accomplishments during the third quarter of 2016, among them adopting rules and procedures for holding conferences, applying NPEC’s balanced performance card system and establishing the Saudi bureau of speakers.
