Statements from the crown prince, who is also Saudi Arabia’s minister of interior, came as he chaired the 35th Regular Meeting of the GCC Interior Ministers.

Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Nayef said on Tuesday that his country and other Gulf-Arab nations are capable of facing security challenges, citing the success of the first joint Gulf-wide military exercises held in Bahrain last month.

“For those who think they can threaten the security and stability of our countries, then should know that we are prepared to respond with the harshest measures,” the Saudi crown prince said.

The meeting discussed efforts to ensure the security of Gulf countries and their citizens and particularly addressed uniting the efforts of the Gulf police.

The meeting also resumed discussing affairs which meet the security aspirations and the demands of GCC member countries.

A gulf official was quoted by Asharq al-Awsat newspaper that the ministers are currently discussing ways in which to place the Houthi militias and other extremist armed groups on a joint terror ban list.
