Yemen’s Minister of Local Administration and the Chairman of the Higher Committee for Relief Abdul-Raqib Saif Fath accuse Houthi militias of starving children in Taiz, due to the detention of 64 trucks loaded with humanitarian aid in both al-Rabihi area in the west of the city and al-Waziya area in the southwest.

Minister Fath explained that the militias took hold of 64 relief trucks coming from the port of Hudaydah to Taiz province since last November. He pointed out that the trucks were carrying relief aid to Sharhab, Jabal Habashi and many other areas.

He said that Amin Humaydan, the agent who was appointed by the Houtis, went to Waziya and refused to release the trucks and drivers, asking them to provide a list with the names of those who will benefit from the aids. Fath stated that the drivers had nothing to do with those who will benefit as they are only responsible for the transportation of the goods.

Minister Fath confirmed that many parties refused to send help from Hudaydah to Taiz due to the ongoing detention of trucks at the entrances of the province.

The Minister of Local Administration and Chairman of the Higher Committee for Relief asked the UN humanitarian coordinator for Yemen, Jamie McGoldrick, and the World Food Programme, to take a firm position towards the Houthis who are detaining relief aid intended for Taiz.

He has also called for the fast release of the trucks and that they reach those who are in need and are suffering from fatal conditions.
