Saudi Arabia to use air balloon to monitor borders

Saudi Arabia will be deploying air balloons for border monitoring.

Saudi Arabia has completed its first test launch of an air balloon designed to aid armed forces in monitoring the kingdom’s borders.

The launch was carried out by the Prince Sultan Advanced Technical Research Institute.

The balloon is equipped with night vision and daylight cameras, as well as radars that detect suspicious movement across the borders, chairman of the institute, Prof Dr Sami Al-Hamidi, explained.

A control room guides the balloon’s 360-degree vision. It can continuously fly for 14 days at a height of up to 2000 feet.
