Uber’s communication department in the GCC announced that they are willing to hold talks with a number of Uber drivers in Qatar, who previously announced their plans to strike on Sunday.

“Uber is committed to dialogue with partner drivers and our priority is to always improve their experience,” the company said on a statement sent to Al Arabiya.

“We are very proud of the high quality service they offer to riders who want to get around Doha with a safe efficient and affordable ride. Thousands of partners driving with Uber in Doha are satisfied and can rely on a dedicated partner support center located in the city with experts committed to answer their questions, share advice to improve their profitability and support any concern or problem they might encounter,” the statement added.

Uber drivers in Doha are protesting the new fare system introduced by the online ride-sharing service provider, which enables customers to gauge an estimated trip fare before they request a ride.

Drivers are also upset that Uber is now accepting cash payments, instead of just payment via credit card through its app.

They say that there have been instances of customers running away after the ride, or “claiming to ask to get money from an ATM and then never coming back.
