Egypt in the dark about Israeli ambassador’s ‘withdrawal’ from Cairo

Israeli ambassador to Egypt, David Govrin.

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry denied having any information about reports that Israel is withdrawing its ambassador in Cairo.

Foreign Ministry spokesman, Chancellor Ahmed Abu Zaid told Al Arabiya that ” the ministry does not have any details about the Israeli ambassador and whether he will return to Cairo or not.”

The Israeli newspaper Haaretz has reported, citing Israeli officials on Tuesday, that Tel Aviv decided to recall its ambassador to Cairo, David Govrin, over concerns about his security.

According to the paper, Govrin has been carrying out his work from Jerusalem, as it added that Israeli authorities hope he will be able to return to his post in Cairo soon.
