The Saudi Railway Company (SAR) is set to launch its first cross-desert North Train ride on February 26, Minister of Transportation, Suleiman bin Abdullah Al-Hamdan, announced.

The North Train will run through the Saudi desert from the middle of the kingdom to the far north.

Saudis will be able to ride to many destinations and travel towards new stations from the center to the north of the kingdom, which will mark a historic event and an important leap at the level of public transportation in Saudi Arabia.

Minister Al-Hamdan said that the completion of this project will be an important economic engine to support investments outside the main cities at a commercial and industrial level, in addition to providing a safe and convenient transportation method to passengers to and from these areas.

It will rampart the direction of the state in the development of small and medium-sized cities through the transfer of a number of industrial activities outside the main towns to these areas, so as to ease the burden on major cities.

This achievement will echo one of the objectives of the Kingdom’s 2030 Vision which aims to obtain a featured rating of three Saudi cities to be among the top 100 cities in the world.
