Police looking for ATM arsonists in Qatif


Unidentified arsonists set fire Saturday to one of the alcoves housing an ATM machine in a Qatif governorate bank in the Eastern Province. Police are investigating the incident.

The area was set alight in Jazira Bank.

Col. Zeyad Al-Ruqati, Eastern Province police spokesman, said the report of the fire was received at dawn and Civil Defense immediately went to the location of the blaze, which caused external damage to the room and ATM machine.

Al-Ruqati said police concluded it was an arson attack. Traces of petroleum were discovered at the scene.

Sources said the bank security guard told the police that he saw two individuals who set alight the ATM area and then ran way.

Terror groups active in Qatif have been carrying out attacks on ATM machines and special security cars that move cash in the last five years.
