Iran: Rafsanjani’s daughter imprisoned for criticizing the regime
The daughter of kbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, Iran’s former president, has been jailed for six months for “propaganda against the regime,” local media sources said.
According to Iranian reformist website Kalma, Faezah Rafsanjani was put on trial on charges of anti-regime propaganda including “spreading lies against judiciary systems and Revolutionary Guards forces in order to mislead public opinion.”
The daughter of the late president has directed her strongest criticism towards the head of the Judiciary authority, Ayatullah Sadiq Amli Larajani, who is being accused by reformist lawmakers of corruption benefitting from bails paid in courts.
Rafsanjai’s statements attracted the ire of the hardliners, and has been convicted of “anti-state propaganda” and sentenced to six months in prison, according to Kalma.
