World’s best airports for 2017 revealed

Skytrax, an international air transport rating organizations based in London, UK, announced at the annual Skytrax World airport Awards, that city-state’s Changi international Airport has been named as the “world’s best Airport” for the fifth year in a row, CNN reported.

According to Skytrax, the Airline and Airport awards; which are announced during a ceremony in Amsterdam on March 14, are described as “the Oscars of the aviation industry”, and are based on millions of international passenger surveys.

Changi airport consists of three terminals, and some of the facilities provided is a 24-hour movie theater screening, a rooftop swimming pool and a butterfly garden. The airport has also just completed its fourth terminal and it is due to open later of 2017.

In a statement to CNN, Lee Seow Hiang, CEO of Changi Airport Group said that “Winning the Skytrax World’s Best Airport Award for the fifth consecutive year is immense encouragement to our 50,000-strong airport community at Changi Airport, every one of whom is passionate about delivering the most memorable airport experience to our passengers”.

Hamad International Airport: One to discover

While Changi airport remains on top, there have been a shift in the rest of the spots on the awards list.

Haneda, Tokyo’s International Airport, jumped two spots. While South Korea’s Incheon international Airport dropped down a spot, pushing Seoul’s gateway to third.

Munich Airport became fourth spot, while Hong Kong Held on to its fifth position.

Munich Airport dropped a spot and moved to fourth on the list, while Hong Kong International held onto its fifth place position. Doha, Qatar’s Hamad International Airport moved up four spots to number six – a highly impressive change, seeing its previous place was 22nd on the list in 2015.

This year, Germany’s Frankfurt Airport was introduced to Skytrax list.

Other Categories

Skytrax offers other awards in different categories, which range from cleanliness, food, and passenger service.

Regarding these categories, Tokyo haneda was voted the world’s cleanest airport, while Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport has been singled out as the most improved. Hong kong was voted the best in dining, and Taiwan’s Taoyuan got the top spot in the best airport staff category.

According to Skytrax, when it comes to shopping, London’s Heathrow is number one.
