Saudi navy disarms Houthi-installed mines in the Red Sea

A Saudi border guard watches as he stands in a boat off the coast of the Red Sea on Saudi Arabia’s maritime border with Yemen, near Jizan April 8, 2015. Iran sent two warships to the Gulf of Aden on Wednesday, state media reported, establishing a military presence off the coast of Yemen where Saudi Arabia is leading a bombing campaign to oust the Iran-allied Houthi movement.

Saudi navy forces confirmed they have dismantled several naval mines deployed by Houthi militias in the Red Sea.

Several of the naval mines were found near the southwestern port city of Mokha aimed at targeting international shipping boats.

Forces allied with the internationally-recognized government of Yemen seized control of the strategic Red Sea port near Mokha in January waging an assault against Houthi militias.
