Will Apple’s next iPhone have a curved screen?
For Apple’s annual September iPhone event, the tech giant could be introducing an iPhone 8 designed with a curved screen.
Following iPhone 8 rumors coming from a Wall Street Journal report last November, multiple supply-chain sources state that Apple is in the process of designing the new screen.
According to the Nikkei Asian Review: “A supply chain source familiar with iPhone designs revealed the size of the order, which was in line with an estimate by David Hsieh, senior director at research company IHS Markit. It will be the first time Apple adopts a curved OLED screen for its iPhones, marking a major overhaul and generating high expectations for the model.”
Hsieh was quoted as saying: “Apple has ordered 70 million units of OLED panels from Samsung this year, while Samsung is preparing to churn out as many as 95 million for Apple in 2017, in case demand exceeds expectations.”
Whether the curved screens will support new functions, like Samsung’s Galaxy devices, or only be a design remains to be seen. Here’s what it could look like.
