Erdogan: We want a ‘new start’ with the US

This comes ahead of a meeting of Erdogan and Trump in Washington on May 16-17 which would be their first meeting since Trump became the president.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced on Friday that he and his US counterpart Donald Trump would open a new chapter in relations between Turkey and the United States by mid-May.

“I am confident that we will have a new chapter in Turkish-American relations with Trump,” Erdogan said at a seminar organized by the Atlantic Council in Istanbul. He criticized Washington’s support for Kurdish factions fighting extremists in northern Syria.
