Houthis ‘kidnap and torture’ 36 civilians on trial in Yemen’s Sanaa
:: Thirty-six Yemeni civilians were tortured by Houthi militias after they forcibly disappeared two years ago, human rights organizations reported on Tuesday.
A joint statement issued by the Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor and the Yemeni SAM Organization for Rights and Liberties said the 36 civilians were inhumanly treated during the time of their disappearance, adding they are currently being tried by a court that violates the standards of a fair trial..
According to the statement, the 36 detainees showed marks of torture on their bodies during their first trial in Sanaa.
Some of them said they were tortured into making false confessions.
Many human rights organizations’ reports have documented the Houthi militias’ violations which include forcible disappearance and torture as dozens of prisoners have died as a result. According to some activists, there are secret prisons in Sanaa with an unclear of number of detainees.
