No links to ‘terrorism’ after car plows into NY crowd

:: One person was killed after a vehicle plowed into pedestrians in New York’s bustling Times Square on Thursday with the police not linking the incident to “terrorism.”

New York Fire Department, in updated tally on Twitter, said one was killed and 19 others were injured in the Times Square incident.

CBS channel said the Times Square incident was not connected to terrorism, citing New York City police. CBS said that vehicle was red Sedan and the driver was removed.

The incident took place at the height of lunch hour at 45th Street and Broadway in Times Square. A police source said that the 26-year-old man driving the vehicle was in custody.

The New York Police Department closed off the area after the collision at the Midtown Manhattan tourist site.

The White House later said that US President Donald Trump has been made aware of the incident and will continue to receive updates.

Al Arabiya’s correspondent also reported that one person was killed and five others in what it seemed as a second car ramming into crowd incident in Staten Island. No further details are available, with others saying it was a car accident.
