Turkish FM says he will travel to Qatar, hopes crisis to end soon
:: Turkey’s Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu told Al Arabiya News Channel that he will be traveling to Qatar on Wednesday and later to Saudi Arabia if possible in hopes to end crisis between Doha and Arab powers.
Saudi Arabia and its Gulf allies accuse Qatar of supporting “terrorism” in the region. Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain and Egypt have all severed relations with Qatar last week.
Cavusoglu said Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan deeply respects Saudi King Salman and his recent statements regarding the crisis does not target Riyadh.
Earlier on Tuesday Erdogan said the isolation of Qatar was a violation of Islamic values.
Meanwhile, Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir insisted earlier Tuesday that Saudi Arabia has not imposed a “blockade” on Qatar by closing the border and banning Doha’s planes from its air space.
Jubeir, in Washington for talks with US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson who called last week for the embargo to be “eased” insisted the move was reasonable.
“There is no blockade of Qatar. Qatar is free to go. The ports are open, the airports are open,” Jubeir said.
