Saudi King Salman and Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi held discussions on Tuesday on the possibilities and means of developing bilateral relations.

The statement said: “Within the framework of the constructive attitude that prevailed in the discussions between the two sides, the current situation, political, and security challenges which are facing the Arab and Islamic nations were discussed. It was agreed to intensify joint action to confront these challenges, especially combating extremism and fighting terrorism in all its forms; the sources of terrorism and its funding, and abide by the conventions and commitments that bind States in this regard.”

The two countries have expressed their determination to continue their successful efforts to combat terrorist militants, particularly ISIS, who has long been involved in the criminal acts harming civilians of the two countries.

The two countries condemned all actions that affect the security and stability of both countries and the region. They also affirmed their keenness to strengthen their relations in order to achieve their common interests, and the importance of promoting peace and security in the region.

The two countries agreed to establish a coordination council between them to upgrade the relations to the desired strategic level and to open new horizons of cooperation in various fields including political, security, economic, developmental, commercial, investment, tourism and cultural and activate the partnership between the private sector in both countries.
