:: The Public Prosecution on Sunday took over the responsibilities to investigate traffic violations, Sabq.org reported.

Sources disclosed that they are coordinating with the Traffic Department to transfer the powers of the authorities and committees related to investigation and prosecution to the Public Prosecution.

The Public Prosecution will now investigate traffic violations and related crimes and file cases, present the case before the judicial authorities, request for appeal of verdicts, and supervise the carrying out of punishment.

The responsibilities of the Public Prosecution also include investigating into drug and psychotropic crimes, crimes concerning public sector jobs and other violations.

Last month Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman issued a royal order amending the name of “The Bureau of Investigation and Public Prosecution” to “the Public Prosecution” and calling its chairman “Public Prosecutor.”

“The Public Prosecution is directly linked to the King, enjoys full independence, and no one shall interfere in its work,” according to the order carried by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

“The Bureau of Experts of the Cabinet in conjunction with relevant authorities shall review the regulations of The Bureau of Investigation and Public Prosecution, the code of criminal procedures, other regulations and relevant royal orders, propose amendments in accordance with this order and submit the outcomes within a period not exceeding ninety days from its date in order to complete the necessary legal procedures,” SPA added.
