Kuwait shuts down Iranian cultural center

:: Anatolia Agency reported on Thursday that the Iranian cultural attaché was shut down in Kuwait. According to an Al Arabiya report, the Kuwaiti measures against the Embassy of Iran in the country involve the closure of the military and cultural offices.

The agency also reported that Kuwait reduced the number of Iranian diplomats to 9. Kuwait has given Iranian diplomats 45 days to leave the country. On Wednesday, the Kuwaiti Interior Ministry published photos of 16 convicted in the case of the “Abdali cell” issuing verdicts in absence against them.

In a press release, the ministry asked citizens and residents to report them, warning against sheltering any of them. On August 13, 2015, the Kuwaiti Interior Ministry arrested a number of defendants with a large quantity of weapons found at a farm in al-Abdali area near the Iraqi border inside houses belonging to suspects.

Ammunition seizure

The seizures included 19 tons of ammunition, 144 kg of explosives, 68 A variety of weapons and 204 grenades, as well as electric detonators.

Kuwait has taken unspecified “actions” regarding its diplomatic relationship with Iran following a court case ruling last year, a Kuwaiti government official said on Thursday, after Arab media said parts of Tehran’s representation in Kuwait had been shut. “The government of the state of Kuwait decided to take actions in accordance with diplomatic norms and in abidance with the Vienna conventions with regards to its relationship with the Islamic Republic of Iran,” following the court ruling, acting Information Minister Sheikh Mohammad al-Mubarak al-Sabah said.
