Diplomats call for urgent UN talks requested after Jerusalem clashes
:: Sweden, France and Egypt on Saturday requested an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council following Israeli-Palestinian unrest in Jerusalem, diplomats said.
The meeting would be to “urgently discuss how calls for de-escalation in Jerusalem can be supported,” said Sweden’s political affairs coordinator Carl Skau.
Friday’s violence – a stabbing attack that killed three Israelis and clashes which left three Palestinians dead – was among the most severe in recent years.
Injured Palestinian dies
Meanwhile, a Palestinian man wounded in clashes with Israeli forces in the West Bank on Saturday has died of his injuries, the Palestinian health ministry said.
It said 17-year-old Oday Nawajaa had been hit by live fire and critically wounded at Al-Azariya north of Jerusalem.
