Diplomatic efforts underway to resolve Gulf rift with Qatar

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman has received a written letter addressed to King Salman from Emir of Kuwait Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

Kuwait’s Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah handed the letter to the crown prince. He and the accompanying delegation then met with Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir.

The Kuwaiti delegate then went to Egypt and met with President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi to discuss the Qatari crisis and the role of Kuwait’s mediation.

Meanwhile, two American envoys, retired general Anthony Zinni and deputy assistant secretary of state for Arabian Gulf affairs Timothy Lenderking, arrived in Kuwait and they will visit Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt before heading to Qatar.

Algerian Foreign Minister Abdul Qadir Misahil voiced Algeria’s support of Kuwait’s efforts to find a solution to the Qatari crisis and said he was optimistic about the efforts of the Kuwaiti mediation.
