British Pakistani actor performs powerful poem on terrorism on The Tonight Show
:: British Pakistani actor Riz Ahmed stunned the audience during an episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon this week after he performed a poem on terrorism and extremism.
The actor, rapper and activist delivered a powerful spoken word piece which he says he wrote 10 years ago.
“Every year I keep hoping it will become irrelevant, but it keeps becoming more and more relevant sadly,” Ahmed explained, before performing the piece called “Sour Times” in which he speaks about Islam and terrorism.
“It’s my attempt to get behind the headlines and work out where all this extremism is coming from,” he told Fallon.
Although the piece was written 10 years ago, much of the content remains relevant and several sections have been modernized. For example, Ahmed gives a stirring rebuke to US President Donald Trump’s rhetoric toward minority communities.
“I’m losing my religion to tomorrow’s headline,” the actor says at one point, before launching into a powerful poem on Islam and terrorism.
