Man to stand trial in UK accused of supplying hundreds of sims to foreign fighters

:: An Iraqi-born man living in the UK accused of providing hundreds of mobile phone sim cards to foreign fighters is due to appear at London’s Old Bailey on Sept. 21.

Rabar Mala, 32, was remanded in custody last week after being charged with possession of property for the purposes of terrorism under section 16 of the Terrorism Act. Mala was arrested on Aug. 20 after police raided his home in Warrington, in the north of England and found 437 sim cards.

It has been alleged Mala activated sim cards between Jan. 2016 and Aug. 2017 before passing them onto fighters linked to Daesh, Westminster Magistrates’ Court heard on Sept. 1.

The cards allowed foreign fighters to set up social media accounts on Twitter or Facebook that were then used to recruit new fighters.
