UAE minister: Transparency the only way for Qatar with Saudi Arabia
:: United Arab Emirates’ Minister of State of Foreign Affairs Dr. Anwar Gargash has said that Qatar “was in a difficult position” following its “naïve media reactions” over the weekend.
“Qatari media sees a return to action against front Saudi Arabia and the Emirates, it is unfortunate because it won’t work, and they ignore the root of the problem,” Gargash said in a series of Tweets posted late Saturday night.
Saudi Foreign Ministry said that Qatar News Agency’s statement continued to distort facts after Riyadh announced in a statement that it will not agree on starting a dialogue with Qatar until the release of an official statement clarifying its position.
“The confused brother must understand that the crisis is not artificial, but has been born as a result of his support for extremism, conspiracy to stabilize his neighbors and is a genuine political crisis which can be treated in means other than through its media,” Gargash added.
The minister said officials from the Emirates continue to seek for a solution that “shields the region from evil policies that affected Arabs and the Gulf with chaos and violence” and that “Saudi Arabia remains the place for our search for a common solution”.
“I hope that Doha will stop maneuvering after it sold its sovereignty cheaply and deals clearly and transparently. There is no other way, and the shortest way is to be honest with Riyadh,” the minister said in another tweet.
“As we watched yesterday’s events, we were filled with optimism that there would be a real breakthrough. But unfortunately, the hesitation, retreat, multiplicity of sources of decision-makers and the lack of wisdom all became a wasted opportunity. Qatar is in a difficult position today.
“Instead of trying to knock a wedge between Riyadh and Abu Dhabi through its naive media arm, the confused brother is wise to tackle his crisis within his surroundings,” Gargash said.
