Saudi attorney general: 11 princes arrested after crowding near palace
:: Saudi Arabia’s Attorney General has confirmed the arrest of 11 princes who gathered at the royal palace and refused to leave last Thursday.
The attorney general, Sheikh Saud al-Mojeb, said the princes refused to leave and demanded the cancellation of a royal order for them to pay their outstanding electricity bills.
“On Thursday, 11 princes gathered at the Qasr al-Hukm Palace demanding the cancellation of the royal order, which provided for the suspension of electricity and water subsidies for the princes, and demanded financial compensation from a judgment involving one of their cousins,” a statement from al-Mojeb’s office read.
The statement said that the princes were transferred to Ha’ir prison pending further investigations and awaiting their trial.
It added that the orders are “clear in stating that all people are equal and that anyone who does not abide by the rules will be accountable whoever he is”.
