Congress voted on Monday to end the three-day closure of federal agencies by approving the latest short-term bill to fund the government.

:: The House of Representatives followed the Senate Monday in approving a temporary funding bill that clears the way to ending a three-day government shutdown triggered by feuding over immigration policy.

With President Donald Trump standing back from negotiations to end the US government shutdown, it was a group of around two dozen moderate senators that took the lead in hammering out a compromise.

The stopgap bill funds the government through February 8 and reauthorizes a popular children’s health insurance program,

The package cleared the House by a vote of 266 to 150, hours after Senate Democrats dropped their opposition to the plan after winning Republican assurances of a vote on immigration in the coming weeks.
