Kuwait responds to President Duterte after Filipino girl’s body found in freezer

The investigation of the Filipino girl whose body was found in a freezer is still underway.


:: The Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry is seeking final solutions to the possible ban of Filipino workers going to the country after President Duterte condemned them of mistreating his ‘countrymen’, Kuwaiti media outlets reported.

A local Kuwaiti newspaper cited diplomatic sources saying that any solution should be in accordance with diplomatic channels, away from media hype.

The sources added that Kuwaiti authorities provided the criminal reports of seven cases of violence and murders of Filipinos in Kuwait, but the Filipino government is still not satisfied.

They also pointed out that the investigation of the Filipino girl whose body was found in a freezer is still underway, adding that this incident does not represent Kuwait and that those who committed it were expats who are being pursued by the Interpol.

Media reports also cited these sources saying that they were surprised that the Filipino president is escalating the situation as problems with violence against Asian workers happens in many other countries. They added that Kuwait is known for their laws that ensure all rights of workers.

They added that Filipino workers enjoy all their rights in Kuwait, and that Kuwaiti authorities are seeking to meet with the Filipino government to find a solution away from the media spotlight. They said that they expect to reach an agreement that will satisfy all parties involved.
