Yemen’s Houthis kidnap several republican guards in Sanaa
:: Yemen’s Houthi militias carried out a series of kidnappings of republican guards in Sanaa following the guards’ refusal to join Houthi frontlines, according to a Yemeni brigadier general.
The general added that armed Houthis raided republican guards’ homes and forcefully arrested them, transferring them to an unknown location in Sanaa.
According to the Yemeni news site al-Masdar Online, some Houthi officers were forced into retirement after they refused to join the militias in their battles.
They added that the militia made grave threats those officers warning them of revealing their warehouses where they store their weapons.
Four republican guards were arrested by the Houthis previously and accused of providing the Arab Coalition with information.
The guards have become restless following the death of former President Ali Abdullah Saleh whom they were loyal to. Many retired from fighting, while others joined Saleh’s nephews legitimate forces in Aden and the west coast.
