ICRC Lebanese employee killed in Yemen laid to rest
:: Hanna Lahoud an International Committee of the Red Cross staff member shot and killed in Yemen’s Taiz last week, was laid to rest on Saturday in his hometown of Brih in Lebanon.
Lahoud was killed last Saturday while on duty in Taiz, after he and some of his colleagues came under attack at a supermarket, as his cousin stated to local media outlets.
A prayer service was held earlier on Saturday in eastern Beirut, where friends, family and Lebanese Red Cross employees gathered to bid farewell.
In a tribute to Lahoud, the ICRC posted on its website: “We condemn this brutal and apparently deliberate attack on a dedicated humanitarian worker,” said the ICRC’s Middle East Director, Robert Mardini.
“We are all in shock. Hanna was a young man full of life and was widely known and liked. Nothing can justify Hanna’s murder and we are in deep mourning for our dear friend and colleague. Our hearts and thoughts are with Hanna’s loved ones and friends.”
Lahoud’s body arrived at Rafik Hariri International Airport on Friday and was received by his family and friends, as well as a representative from the Lebanese Foreign Ministry and the head of ICRC in Lebanon, Christophe Martin.
