Saudi Arabia ‘stands by’ Morocco ‘against all threats to its security’
:: An official source at Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Ministry expressed the Kingdom’s stance by Morocco in all that threatens its security, stability and territorial integrity.
“The source added that the Saudi government strongly condemns the Iranian interference in Morocco’s internal affairs through its tool, Hezbollah’s terrorist militia, which is training the elements of the so-called “Polisario” group in order to destabilize the security and stability in the sisterly Kingdom of Morocco,” a statement carried by Saudi Press Agency read.
“The source said that the Kingdom affirms its stand by the sisterly Kingdom of Morocco in all that guarantees its security and stability, including its decision to sever its relations with Iran,” the statement added.
Morocco on Tuesday severed all diplomatic ties with Iran over Tehran’s support for the Polisario Front, a Sahara independence movement. Morocco will close its embassy in Tehran and will expel the Iranian ambassador in Rabat.
Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita said that Iran and its Lebanese Shiite ally Hezbollah were supporting the Polisario by training and arming its fighters.
