:: Iran’s Political Affairs Spokesman for their Revolutionary Guards Corps, Lieutenant Commander Yidallah Javani, said the threatsby the Islamic Republic to close the Strait of Hormuz are “serious”.

In an interview with Iranian Tasnim news agency, which is a media outlet for the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps, Javani said: “When a country threatens Iran and raises the idea that it can block Iranian oil exports if it wants, then Iran’s reciprocal threat is an authentic threat.”

Javani’s comments came on the heels of statements issued by the commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards’ Quds Force Qassem Suleimani when he said that “The Red Sea is no longer secure”, in a reference to the Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthi militias’ attack on two Saudi oil tankers on Thursday, which temporarily halted all oil shipments through the strategic Red Sea shipping lane of Bab al-Mandeb, according to analysits.

Earlier, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani threatened to close the Strait of Hormuz and confront the United States by saying: “We have many other straits and Hormuz is one of them.”

Javani threatened to strike the US troops stationed in the Gulf by saying: “If anybody wants to threaten the Islamic Republic of Iran’s interests, Iran will, in turn, threaten their interests with its capabilities,” the general said, pledging a natural reaction from the Iranian Armed Forces to American bullying policies.

While many Iranian officials have reacted to US President Donald Trump’s remarks, in which he addressed the Iranian president in a tweet by saying “NEVER, EVER THREATEN THE UNITED STATES AGAIN OR YOU WILL SUFFER CONSEQUENCES THE LIKES OF WHICH FEW THROUGHOUT HISTORY HAVE EVER SUFFERED BEFORE”, other Iranian political figures have criticized the Iranian threats of closing the Strait of Hormuz.

Iranian diplomat Seyed Hossein Mousavian, former spokesman for Iran’s nuclear diplomacy team in negotiations with the EU and International Atomic Energy Agency, who is also very close to president Rouhani, cautioned in an interview on Friday against Tehran’s threat to close the Strait of Hormuz to block oil shipments, saying this will put the Islamic Republic under huge sanctions even from its allied states, like China, Russia and the European Union.
