Saudi minister calls for ‘new safety measures’ in educational transportation
:: The Saudi education minister, Dr. Hamad bin Mohammed Al-Asheikh, has ordered the introduction of a special administration for “safety and security” at Tatweer Educational Transportation Services Co. (TTC).
The call came during a visit to the company’s headquarters in Riyadh on Saturday. The new administration will develop legislation to improve safety and security procedures in educational transportation.
During his visit, Al-Asheikh was briefed on the services provided by the company, as well as a number of pilot projects developing new technology for school buses. This includes a project on using satellite systems to track vehicles directly, ensuring responsible conduct by drivers.
The minister was also briefed that TTC would adopt regular awareness-raising activities on the importance of applying safety and security procedures, in cooperation with education administrations across the Kingdom. They will also conduct specific training courses for employees on safe driving.
TTC’s educational transportation service aids over a million students from 15,000 schools across the country, with the service’s vehicles making 50,000 trips daily.
