Saudi Arabia Achieves Record Date Production
In a remarkable achievement, Saudi Arabia has surpassed its date production goals, reaching an impressive self-sufficiency rate of 124%. With annual production now exceeding 1.6 million tons, this milestone reflects the Kingdom’s commitment to expanding palm cultivation across the nation.
Date palms now flourish over approximately 165,000 hectares, a testament to the booming growth of the date industry in Saudi Arabia. The Riyadh region leads the charge, producing 436,112 tons annually. Close behind, the Qassim region contributes 390,698 tons, while Madinah and the Eastern Region add 263,283 tons and 203,069 tons, respectively.
Other regions also play a vital role in the country’s date production. Hail produces 73,298 tons, Al-Jouf contributes 65,020 tons, and Makkah adds 64,095 tons. Asir, Tabuk, and Najran contribute 55,225 tons, 52,792 tons, and 9,837 tons, respectively, while Al-Baha, the Northern Borders, and Jazan produce 2,969 tons, 1,314 tons, and 111 tons, respectively.
This success story underscores Saudi Arabia’s ability to sustain its date production and highlights the ongoing efforts by the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture. Through innovations in agricultural practices and improvements in production quality, the Ministry and its partners have significantly advanced the palm industry, bolstering the Kingdom’s domestic product.
These achievements were celebrated as part of the Harvest Season campaign, which aims to promote local fruits, increase awareness of agricultural products, and support local farmers by enhancing their financial returns. The campaign also encourages the consumption of seasonal fruits, ensuring that Saudi Arabia’s rich agricultural heritage continues to thrive year-round.
