Sports Boulevard Wins Prestigious Architecture Award

CEO of Architecture and Design Commission Dr. Sumayah Al-Sulaiman presents the King Salman Charter for Architecture and Urbanism Award to CEO of the Sports Boulevard Foundation Jayne McGivern during a ceremony held in Riyadh.

The Sports Boulevard Foundation has proudly secured the esteemed King Salman Charter for Architecture and Urbanism Award, an honor bestowed by the Architecture and Design Commission. This award recognizes the Foundation’s outstanding commitment to embedding the Charter’s principles into the very fabric of its design code for the Sports Boulevard.

What sets this project apart is its seamless blend of tradition and modernity. The Foundation’s innovative approach has not only embraced the rich cultural heritage of Salmani architecture but also introduced cutting-edge urban designs that speak to the future of Riyadh.

At the heart of this achievement lies a deep respect for King Salman’s vision for urban development. The project’s design code, launched in 2022, underscores this by ensuring all structures along Prince Mohammed bin Salman Road resonate with local identity while promoting sustainability and modern living standards.

Dr. Sumayah Al-Sulaiman, CEO of the Architecture and Design Commission, handed over the award to Jayne McGivern, CEO of the Sports Boulevard Foundation, during a ceremony at the King Abdulaziz International Conference Center in Riyadh. McGivern expressed her immense pride, highlighting the collective efforts of the SBF design team and their esteemed consultants—Fosters, Coen & Partners, and Buro Happold.

“This award is a testament to our dedication to preserving local identity while introducing revolutionary urban planning concepts,” McGivern said. “The Sports Boulevard project is not just about creating spaces; it’s about enhancing lives by integrating world-class sports facilities within a vast network of green spaces and pathways.”

Spanning an impressive 135 kilometers, the project incorporates over 4.4 million square meters of green and open spaces and includes up to 50 multi-disciplinary sports facilities. These achievements have garnered the trust and admiration of a distinguished committee of 30 local and international experts in architecture and design.

Launched by King Salman on March 19, 2019, and chaired by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the Sports Boulevard stands as one of Riyadh’s mega projects. It is dedicated to elevating the quality of life for residents and visitors by offering them a diverse range of recreational and sports facilities, including pedestrian pathways, cycling lanes, and horse-riding trails, all set within an integrated infrastructure.
